“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from unrighteousness.”
-1 John 1:9 ESV
God never said confess your sins to me and I will hold it against you with condemnation. God is present with us every single moment, He is aware of our sins. However, He wants us to confess them because it is a form of acknowledgment. As the scripture says He is faithful and will forgive our sins. Since God is a forgiving God and we’re choosing to walk in His footsteps, this means we ought to forgive too. Forgiving those who have offended us is crucially important but it is also important that we forgive ourselves. Oftentimes we hang this cloud of guilt over our own heads thinking that God is angry with us. He knows we all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) but because we as believers have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Christ Jesus. (Romans 5:1) God has already forgiven you, don’t let the devil try and hold guilt over you. Renew your mind, stand firm, and declare the Word and it will put the devil back in his place.
